ABOUT

Founded in 2006

In 2006, Route 66 Car Club was established as a Rubidoux High School Associated Student Body club for students enrolled in the Auto Paint and Refinishing class. The club advisor and teacher, Mr. Weber, is a talented paint craftsman and creative fabricator with over 40 years of teaching expertise at Rubidoux High School and Riverside City College.

Lifelong Learning Skills

Route 66 Car Club is more than a student organization, it was created to bridge the gap between the local car community and the Auto Paint and Refinishing Essentials and Advanced classes offered by the Riverside County Office of Education’s Career Technical education (CTE) Unit at Rubidoux High School. Students enrolled in the class learn basic understanding of the auto collision trade, intermediate and master skills in auto body repair and refinishing. The club provides students the opportunity to meet local industry leaders, plan car shows, network with the car community and establish relationships with future employers.

The program has inspired generations of students to advance their skills since the first class began in 1982. The course is designed to foster creativity and train future careers in the auto repair industry. The classes provide students the opportunity to expand talents and pair them with technical education and training.

Students who successfully complete the program receive a certificate of training to be used upon entering the workforce and college credit towards continuing education at Riverside City College. The elective CTE courses are available exclusively to Rubidoux High School students.

Alumni of the program have established careers in the auto body repair industry, and many have excelled to become award-winning car builders, auto restoration shop owners, aftermarket car industry manufacturers and small business owners. Former students and their work have been featured in print and online publications, film, music videos, reality tv and streaming shows.

The Route 66 Car Club Scholarship Fund

As an avid car collector and award-winning car show builder, Mr. Weber created the car shows to fund scholarships and award students for excellence in his class. The club hosts two annual events: Doc von Weber’s Day of the Dead in fall and Wild Bill's Riverside Nationals Car Show in the spring. The car shows garner support from the community and bring awareness to the educational program that has served as a launching pad for thousands of student's careers spanning four decades.

Proceeds from the car show ticket sales, registrations and donations, directly benefit the Rubidoux High School Scholarship Fund. At the end of the school year, scholarship are awarded at the Rubidoux High School senior awards night. The students are recognized for their outstanding achievement in the Auto Paint and Refinishing program. In 2022, the club recognized three dozen students for outstanding achievement and awarded $6,000 in scholarships. The 2023 scholarship fund awarded six graduating seniors with $1,000 scholarships.
